The path often begins with friction. Something in the accepted explanation does not settle. The 7 may not yet know what is wrong, but the question has already opened.
From there, attention moves inward. Noise is reduced. Sources are compared. Experience is examined. The seeker descends beneath the first answer and waits for something more trustworthy to emerge.
The decisive threshold appears in what happens inside that solitude. Does the inner room develop a door? Can the answer survive being spoken? Will knowledge change the life that carries it?
